What is an astronomer?

Astronomy is the study of all objects beyond the Earth. Scientists who study astronomy use different methods in order to understand the physics as well as seek answers to one of the most fundamental questions of our existence.  The science of Astronomy is broken up into a variety of fields.  Some astronomers rely on observational data while others use mathematical and physical laws to support their ideas.  Astronomers study many different problems in the known universe ranging from the relatively small-scale formations of planetary and stellar systems, to the very large scale extra-galactic and cosmological regions of study.
